Botanical description of yarrow herb

Perennial plant of the Daisy family – Compositae – up to 60 cm.
Erect stems, hairy, grooved.
Upper leaves till 15 cm, twice or three times pinnate, lanceolate, sessile. Lower ones till 25 cm, petiolated.
Flowers about 6 mm in heads, gathered in corymbes.
Components of yarrow herb
- Acids: ascorbic, caffeic, oleic and salicylic. (Leaves)
- Essential oil rich in: alpha-pinene, alpha-terpinene, beta- pinene, azulene, Chamazulene, camphene, caryophyllene, bornyl acetate, pe-cymene and sabinene.
- Flavanoids: apigenin and luteolin. (Plant)
- Sesquiperpenic lactones: achilicin, achilleine,. millefin (Plant)
- Alkaloids: betonicine, betaine, choline and stachydrine (Plant)
